Things I Love Thursday

This week I thought I would share some vintage snaps I found at the Cattle Barn Flea Market in Fort Worth last weekend.  Because I do love me some vintage snaps.

I give up.  Who?

Isn't he sweet?  What a cool harness, too.
Cracks me up on so many levels!
Magic.
I first saw the photo with the bird a few months ago and came across it again so I couldn't resist it this time.  It's now one of my favorites.

Speaking of vintage snaps, I was contacted today by The National Building Museum for permission to use two of my father's snapshots from the 1939 World's Fair in New York City for and exhibition entitled "Designing Tomorrow: America’s World’s Fairs of the 1930s" which runs from October 2, 2010 through July 10, 2011.  He would have LOVED that!  Go here to get more info the exhibit.  To see the photos, go here and here.

Until tomorrow.....

The Wedding Reception

The reception for my brother and his new bride was wonderful. I managed to finish the cake toppers and get them painted by the time the cake was delivered. Isn't that cake cute??? It was made by Creme de la Creme in Fort Worth, TX, who also made my sister-in-law's wedding cake. Deeeelish!

The grooms cake was made and decorated by my son (with some help from Daddy). He saw Mommy making the birds out of Sculpey for the wedding cake and decided he'd make some cake toppers too! There are four ducks swimming in a lake, with a "guy" and a horse looking on. I think Herb really liked it. Beautiful!

The paper Calla Lillies were the favors the guests took home. I made these flowers from beautiful hand made seeded paper from RecycledIdeas.etsy.com. Holly, from RecycledIdeas, went out of her way to make this gorgeous paper and get it to me quickly so I could finish all of these in time, and I really appreciate that.

I got the idea for these flowers from a great book I got from the library called Fast, Fun & Easy Fabric Flowers by Karen Flamme. The book includes detailed instructions on how to make lots of different flowers from fabric, though I decided to make these from paper. The flowers can be enjoyed as they are, or the paper can be removed and easily germinated to grow wildflowers. Holly sent me easy to understand directions which I included with each flower. Fun!

Away

Yes, it has been a long time since I have posted anything here. I have been deeply, deeply sad during the past month. My sister left this earth unexpectedly and this has left me and my family in a state of shock. When the wind gets back into my sails, I will be posting here again. Check my Flickr link to see a recent visitor to my backyard. He was definitely in a posing mood.

Invitation

This is an invitation I just made for my son's 5th Birthday party - a laser tag party. I took the robot from the "tattoo" he gave me last summer. Isn't that tattoo awesome?! I was so sad when it washed off.

For other invitation and greeting card designs, visit my Etsy shop. I LOVE custom orders.

Warm Fuzzies

These are my furry babies. I've been learning about Photoshop lately and found some free "actions" to play with. I just couldn't resist making some fake polaroids of our pooches really quickly using these actions. I used a free action from Elusive Photography. This girl's photography is amazing and inspirational. You can find her photographs here.
